With its turquoise lakes, charming villages and beautiful mountain scenery, the state of Tyrol (‘Tirol’ in German) encapsulates the best of Alpine Austria – even down to the contented belled cows that dot the countryside.

Tyrol has something for everyone, which is why we’ve included it in so many of our tours. Take advantage of the region’s world-class golf courses and hiking trails; admire the architectural beauty of Innsbruck, the Olympic capital, relax at the chic alpine resort towns of Kitzbuhel and St Anton, or simply soak up the atmosphere in summer, when Tyrol’s ski resort towns burst into colour as geraniums fill the chalets and cobblestoned streets.

Driving in Tyrol is no less exceptional. The relatively short distances between attractions can be covered quickly and safely thanks to an efficient motorway network, while the ever-present mountains mean there’s always a challenging road within easy reach. Some of the more notable stretches of Tyrolean tarmac include Timmelsjoch, Silvretta High Alpine Road, Hahntenjoch and the Berwang Road, and our tours allow you to take full advantage of them. The real finds, though, are the lesser-known gems dotted around the region. We’ll happily show them to you.

Like the region’s roads, Tyrol’s spa hotels are also amongst the best in Austria. The Interalpen Hotel, located 1,300m above sea level with a 5,000-square metre spa area, is simply without rival; while the luxurious Astoria Resort and Spa, perched on a hillside overlooking the Wetterstein mountains in the picturesque town of Seefeld, is luxury defined. We rate these hotels so highly that several of our tours includes a stay at one of them – and you won’t be disappointed.
